(WHAS11) – Medal of Honor recipient and Kentucky native Dakota Meyer was the special guest of honor at Keeneland on Sunday.
It was all part of Military Family Day at the race track.
Meyer accepted a $5,000 donation to his "Challenge to America" initiative that is raising scholarship money for the children of Marines.
Sergeant Meyer is 23-years-old and from Columbia, Kentucky.
He was given the Medal of Honor in August for saving the lives of 36 Afghan and American soldiers and, while under heavy enemy fire, he retrieved the bodies of four fallen comrades.
Meyer is the first living recipient from the Marine Corps to receive the medal for actions during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
