LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville is getting greener thanks to a new recycling program that kicked off Monday.
Mayor Greg Fischer signed an executive order Monday that requires all Metro government buildings to recycle.
"The key here is we talk about a more sustainable city so the city government should be a leader in that. Many businesses are doing it already and we encourage those that are not, whether they’re profit or non-profit, schools churches or whatever, also to start recycling immediately," Fischer said.
Fischer said the program helps the environment, and in the long run will help the city financially as well.
