LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- Mayor Greg Fischer testified in Frankfort on Thursday about the need to enact a local option sales tax in Louisville.

The tax would allow metro government to ask citizens to increase the local sales tax, in order to fund a specific project.  Local option tax increases would be no more than one percent.

A recent UofL study reported that if the tax had been in place throughout 2012, nearly $138 million would have been collected.
