(WHAS11) -- Okolona’s fire marshal says his fire department responded to dozens of fires over the holiday weekend, caused by new legalized fireworks. Mike Allendorf says there were field fires, car fires, and several injuries.

Metro Council passed an ordinance in May allowing the sale and use of Class C fireworks in Louisville.  Class C fireworks are powerful fireworks that shoot into the air.  The ordinance says you must be 200 feet away from any structure, person, or animal to use the fireworks.

Allendorf says that rule was broken hundreds of times over the weekend; so along with other Louisville fire marshals will be heading to Metro Hall soon to ask the Metro Council to renew the ban of Class C fireworks.
