LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)—A Louisville veteran is hitting another milestone on Thursday.

John E. Ridge, who turned 100 Thursday, is a retired Army Colonel and veteran of World War II.

He celebrated the century mark with long times friends at the Louisville Boat Club, many of them he’s known for over 50 years.

One of Ridge’s most memorable moments of his century on Earth was the surprise attack of Pearl Harbor, where he was stationed as a 27-year-old Corporal.

“Until the bombs started dropping, I didn't know we were at war with Japan,” Ridge said.

Ridge is a graduate of DuPont Manual High School and an alumni of the University of Louisville.
