LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Louisville hand transplant program is celebrating 15 years.
Earlier on Thursday morning, March 20, Jewish Hospital and Kleinert Kutz Hand Care
Center held an event to celebrate eight hand transplants performed over the last 15 years in Louisville.
Matthew Scott was the first in February of 1999. The success of his transplant has impacted the future of both transplantation and reconstructive surgery around the world.
Donnie Rickelman, the seventh hand transplant recipient from the Louisville program was also at the event.
