(WHAS11)  It is an experience that high school girls will always remember... Prom!

And it’s fast approaching.

But several charity groups wanted to make sure in these tough economic times, when almost everyone is scaling back, that young girls didn’t have to scale back on the memories, or the glitz and glam of prom.

A girl has to have the perfect the dress, shoes, and the whole outfit has to be memorable.

The Junior League of Louisville’s Bloom Boutique is hoping to make the prom dreams of over 125 young ladies come true; right down to hair and makeup.

Jade Mclean is a junior getting glammed up for her second prom.  We asked, “Are you excited? Do you have a date? Who are you taking?”  “ My boyfriend... he’s a senior,” Mclean said.

Of all of the options, she found the dress that suits her best.  “I like the color and this here that goes across, and the length and how it goes around my neck.”

Hundreds of dresses were donated; and for these girls, they’re free.  So are the shoes.  So is the jewelry.

Claire Albright said the organization wanted to give these girls a makeover, from head-to-toe.

“We’re just hoping that it takes one more burden off of them, as they have so many financial constraints in these times.  Hopefully, it builds their self-confidence a little bit.  They can have a dress they really love and have a great time at their prom.”

Jade said she was remembering every brush stroke of eye shadow, so she can recreate her fabulous look on May 9; the day of her prom.

And that wasn’t the only organization handing out free prom dresses.

Northeast Christian Church and Clifton Christian Church hosted “Prom Project” on Friday and Saturday.
