Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11)- Get ready to light up the night in downtown Louisville.  Crews have been putting the final touches together in Jefferson Square for Light Up Louisville.  Santa will also make an appearance.

Producer Wayne Hettinger says the event is all about the kids.  “It's because of Santa Claus.  It's all about seeing the excitement of kids.  All the years I have been doing this Kelsey, when you see those faces light up when Santa hits the street here, boy nothing can top that.,” said Hettinger.

The fun kicks off at 3 p.m. Friday with the Light Up 5k, then at 6 p.m. it's the Winter Wonderland Parade along Main Street.

Expect a traffic mess as the UofL game starts at 7 p.m. just blocks away at the KFC Yum! Center.

Santa Claus arrives at 8:55 p.m., and the lights go on at 9 p.m.
