LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Light Up Louisville organizers are expecting a huge crowd at this year’s event.
On Wednesday, some of the final touches are being made at Jefferson Square. The bleachers and lights are in place for Friday’s festivities.
It all starts with a Light Up 5K followed by the holiday parade. Then Santa will arrive to help Mayor Fischer “light up” Louisville.
“It’s because of Santa Claus. It’s all about seeing the excitement of kids. All the years I’ve been doing this, when you see those faces light up when Santa hits the streets here – boy, nothing can top that,” says Wayne Hettinger, producer of Light Up Louisville.
Louisville will be Santa’s second official stop after Thursday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Here is a rundown of Friday’s activities:
Light Up 5K – 3 p.m.
Winter Wonderland Parade on Main Street – 6 p.m.
UofL game at the KFC Yum! Center – 7 p.m. (expect traffic!)
Santa Claus arrives – 8:55 p.m.
Light Up Louisville – 9 p.m.
