LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- 48 years after a $124 bid won the first Kentucky Country Ham auction at the Kentucky State Fair, a $300,000 bid won 2012's champion ham at the Kentucky Farm Bureau event Wednesday morning.

The winning bidder, Dr. Mark Lynn of Louisville, said the proceeds would be split among three Louisville charities, Visually Impaired Pre-school Services (VIPS), Eastern Area Community Ministries, and the University of Louisville.

Two years ago, Lynn partnered with Republic Bank for a record $1.6 million bid on the champion ham.

"We got a bargain this year," Lynn laughed.
