LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – The countdown is on, and we’re just ten days away from Kentucky Derby 136, but on Wednesday, Kentuckiana residents were preparing for a different sort of Derby.
This one involves brightly decorated shopping carts!
Kroger employees warmed up on Wednesday for this Saturday's Bascart Derby. It benefits the WHAS Crusade for Children.
The event is only in its second year, but is already growing.
"This year we've incorporated four of the local stores,” said Felicia LaFaille,the Associate Manager of the Terry Road Kroger, and the creator of the event.
The Brandenburg Kroger, the Valley store, the Dixie Highway store as well as her own will participate in the Derby.
Felicia said she expects at least 20 Bascart teams to compete at the track.
Racing begins at the Dixie Highway Kroger on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
