Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) -If you're planning to hit the stores this Friday to kick off your holiday shopping, you're not alone.

The National Retail Federation says 128 million people plan to scope out the bargains this black Friday.

But some local business owners want you to skip the malls, the crowds and the hype and Keep Louisville Weird.

They say you can find some of the same gifts you're looking for inside a local store, all while keeping your money in our community.

"These businesses are part of the personality of the community.  They are a part of the culture of the community," says John Yarmuth.

"You can find the malls, box stores, corporate stores anywhere in America.  But then you go to a place like Lynn's Paradise Cafe and you know you're in a place unlike any else," says Ear-X-tacy owner John Timmons.

The Louisville Independent Business Association kicked off its holiday passport campaign Tuesday.

If you shop at ten local stores this season, keep your receipts and turn them in at Wild and Wooly Video or Ear-X-tacy for a chance to win $1,000.
