LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- International Women's Day events in Louisville Fri., March 8:

Americana Community Center and the Louisville Metro Office for Women will host an awards luncheon on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to recognize five women and two girls from the Louisville international community for their grassroots efforts to improve our world.

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics will help women feel Pretty and Powerful in honor of International Women's Day. The event will feature a day of pampering FREE to women from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Macy's at Oxmoor Mall. Dress for Success Louisville is the non-profit partner of this event.
 
In honor of International Women's Day, Bobbi Brown has created a Pot Rouge specifically for Dress for Success Louisville. Proceeds from the sale of this specialty product will benefit Dress for Success Louisville. Product quantities are limited. Additionally, women are encouraged to bring new and nearly new business attire to be collected for donation to Dress for Success Louisville.
 
During the event, women can receive make-up consultations from a Bobbi Brown consultant, as well as complimentary mini massages, manicures and hair touch-ups courtesy of Macy's Premier Salon & Spa.
 
In addition to the activities for the general public, Bobbi Brown will be honoring eight Dress for Success Louisville clients with mini make-overs and a rose of encouragement.

Women Make the Avenue Work:  Frankfort Avenue is home to more than 80 female-owned businesses and to celebrate the accomplishments of these women, and ALL women, the Frankfort Avenue Business Association is hosting a series of events beginning at 2 p.m.

  • 2 p.m.-- Readings from Independent Theatre Company, Looking for Lilith, from their world premiere of Alice in Black and White at A Reader’s Corner Bookstore, 2044 Frankfort Avenue
  • 3 p.m. -- Second screening of Iron Jawed Angels at 1741: A Collaboratory for Social Innovation, 1741 Frankfort Avenue
  • 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. -- “Women Make the Avenue Work” Reception and USPS Stamp Unveiling at eyedia, 1631 Mellwood Avenue. The public is invited to attend a reception and enjoy networking with women business owners, live music from Brigid Kaelin, and refreshments from Apocalypse Brewery, Dark Star Tavern, Crave Catering, and more. The U.S. Postal Service will also unveil and dedicate Global Forever, a new international rate stamp.
