LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The goal of a 5K on Sunday was to put hunger on the run.
The 5K is called the Hunger Walk and it benefits the Dare to Care Food Bank.
The benefit's organizers said the event was symbolic of a community coming together to fight hunger and the goal is important because one in six families in our community don't know where their next meal will arrive.
The numbers equal nearly 200,000 people and more than 80,000 local children who are hungry.
Thanks to the money raised by the Hunger Walk, Dare to Care will be able to provide nearly half a million meals to people in need.
