LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – Downtown Louisville was teaming with basketball fans most of the week, all to watch the big games coming up Thursday.

Fans like, the Doiron family, are all suffering from March Madness. They’re flying and driving to town, renting rooms, filling restaurants, and pumping life into the city.  Impellizzeri’s Pizza manager Caleb Schleifer said, “We’re expecting to have our busiest week since we opened last October.”

Some fans came from a little farther than others to watch the tournament. The Doirons came all the way from Bracebridge, Ontario. They’re not fans of any particular team, just big basketball fans.  They told us Louisville is beautiful and the people are wonderful.

But, without the YUM! Center, none of this would be possible. The NCAA said they wouldn’t bring the tournament back to Louisville without a big arena in the downtown area. Chris Poynter with the Mayor’s office says the tournament is expected to bring at least $3 million into Louisville.
