LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS) -- Christ Chapel on the backside of Churchill Downs resembled something more like a spa on Monday. Workers were treated to free haircuts, makeup and clothing.
For them, it was chance to get a little pampering.
Kathy Sanchez got a full makeover, the kind of treatment any woman would love, a hair cut, fresh makeup and new clothes.
"I have been nervous and anxious for a couple of weeks, but when I got up, I was like 'awww' today is the day . So I am really excited, " said Sanchez.
Christ Chapel wanted to thank the volunteer work Sanchez does for the chapel, but Sanchez told us, "I really don’t feel like I do anything special."
Ken Boehm, the chaplain at Churchill Downs said, "Our men and women on the backside will often cut each other’s hair with horse clippers and we thought we could do something special before the holidays."
The American College of Barbering set up stations throughout the chapel and stylists donated their time.
The chapel plans to hold the free hair cut service twice a year, during the spring and fall meets.
