(WHAS11) - WHAS11's Monty Webb is the official meteorologist for the U.S. Bank Derby Great Balloonfest. Here is his forecast for the events:

Scattered showers/storms Friday with a warm front pushing into the area. Showers and a few storms Friday morning-afternoon, then the front pushes north of us by the evening... So right now it appears we my get a little break for the Balloon Glow. Saturday looks wet and windy with the low getting closer. Some of the storms Saturday afternoon could be strong with heavy rain (1-2" by Sunday AM). The Balloon Race could have some weather issues.

U.S. BANK BALLOONFEST TO FEATURE 5 EVENTS

April 21, 2010. Louisville, KY.   –  The Kentucky Derby Festival’s five hot-air balloon events, collectively known as the U.S. Bank Great BalloonFest, will kick off this Thursday, April 22, and run through Saturday, April 24. The balloon event schedule has grown in recent years and now includes: the U.S. Bank Great Balloon Tour at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, at Charlie Vettiner Park; the U.S. Bank Great Balloon Glimmer at 8:30 p.m. on April 22 at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront; the U.S. Bank Rush-Hour Race at 7 a.m. on Friday, April 23, at the Kentucky Exposition Center; the U.S. Bank Great Balloon Glow at 9 p.m. on April 23 at KEC; and the U.S. Bank Great Balloon Race at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, also at KEC.

The latest addition to the BalloonFest lineup, the U.S. Bank Derby Festival Great Balloon Tour, allows those outside of the downtown area a chance to see the balloons closer to home. The Tour takes the balloons to Charlie Vettiner Park this year, where pilots will perform a fly-in task. The Glimmer at Fest-a-Ville will be preceded by live music from Olivia Henken. The Rush-Hour race on Friday, April 23, will offer a beautiful view to those fighting traffic on their way to work. On Saturday morning, April 24, the field of 29 balloons will take flight in the oldest portion of the balloon events, the U.S. Bank Great Balloon Race.

Since the first Great Balloon Race was held in 1973, the Derby Festival’s balloon events have been considered among the best in the country by pilots from all around the world. BalloonFest attractions are annually among the most popular family-friendly events on the Derby Festival schedule. There are four flight opportunities to get both races off the ground – Friday morning, Saturday morning and afternoon, and Sunday morning. If the event is not held by Sunday morning, it is considered cancelled. In the event’s 36-year history, this has occurred five times.

The Derby Festival Great BalloonFest is sponsored by U.S. Bank. Arison Insurance Services, Inc. is the contributing sponsor.
