LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- First Thanksgiving, followed by Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and then Cyber Monday. Now, it's Giving Tuesday.

Giving Tuesday is a day of giving for those in need during the Christmas and holiday season. Giving Tuesday started in 2012.

Eight hundred organizations, from non-profits to corporations, are taking part and they are urging you to join them.

The goal of Giving Tuesday is to donate to charities that provide so much for those in need during the winter months.

Here in Kentuckiana groups like Metro United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Dare to Care, and WHAS Crusade for Children all are joining the movement.

One of the many ways Metro United Way is asking for help this holiday season is by asking community members to consider buying a small item off their Amazon Christmas Wish list. The items are to help school aged children. To contribute, click here.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana is hoping to raise at least $1,200 on Giving Tuesday. That is the cost of one match of a little brother or sister and mentor. To donate, click here.

Organizers at Dare to Care say the demand for assistance is at an all time high. According to organizers, for each dollar donated it feeds four people. To donate, click here

Year round WHAS Crusade for Children collects money to help special needs children. On this Giving Tuesday organizers are hoping community members will open their hearts even more. To donate, click here
