LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Press Release) - - A male giraffe was born at the Louisville Zoo on June 27 and the Zoo wants help in naming the calf in a naming contest presented by Floyd Memorial Birthing Center. Additional support is presented by Lite106.9 and New Country Q103.1.
The Floyd Memorial Birthing Center Bongo Naming Contest just wrapped up and we are happy to announce that the three bongo calves will now be called Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. These names were selected by Zoo guests who voted for their favorite names by placing coins and bills into a kiosk on the Zoo’s plaza. Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira now share these names with the three extinct volcanoes that form Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Winning names were submitted by Lincoln and Amanda Roberson of Louisville.

The alternate prize package includes four Zoo Adventure tickets, items from the Zoo’s gift shop and a commemorative video (DVD) documenting our orphaned polar bear cub, Qannik’s first year of life and journey to Louisville.
“The Floyd Memorial Birthing Center is honored to support the Louisville Zoo by presenting this unique celebration of life to the community,” added Cindee Ferree, Marketing & Public Relations Supervisor, Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
