GARY, Ind. (AP) -- A 93-year-old former Tuskegee Airman from Gary whose Congressional Gold Medal was stolen is getting a replacement.
Quentin Smith was among about 300 surviving Tuskegee Airmen to receive the award in 2007. His medal was stolen during a home burglary last summer.
Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said Wednesday that a ceremony to give him the replacement medal will be held Friday at Smith's home.
The airmen trained in Alabama at Tuskegee Institute, now Tuskegee University, as a segregated unit during World War II.
Smith spent much of the war as a flight instructor for the unit.
