Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The snow season is upon us, and a 34-year-old tradition that has played out in music here on WHAS TV is now getting national attention.

NPR - National Public Radio - recently asked its listeners to send them their favorite winter songs. This week, the program “All Things Considered”, played the top selections. Number two came from a Louisville woman named Dannie Prather.

Bellavia was chosen during that blizzard winter of 1976-77 by longtime WHAS11 director Jerry Lloyd, who is now retired. He needed music long enough to cover the long list of closings that rolled on the screen. We thank Jerry for creating quite a tradition.
WHAS11 still plays Bellavia today.

The last winter song chosen for that NPR contest was “That's the Way”, by Led Zeppelin!!
