LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Former University of Louisville football player and Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch is tackling a personal mission off the field.

Branch did an interview with ABC News where he talked about his mission to raise funds and awareness about meningitis in honor of his son.

His son, Deiondre, had meningitis and suffered a brain injury from the infection. Now 11, Deiondre, lives at the Home of the Innocents because he needs constant care.

Branch started the Deion Branch Foundation to raise money and awareness about the cause. Branch pushed his son in the Kentucky Derby Festival’s mini-marathon over the  weekend and raised more than $27,000 for the foundation.
