Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Mayor Greg Fischer has increased funding to the Summer Works Program, which provides jobs for teens and adults in the area.
Fischer said since the federal government dropped its funding four years ago, businesses, organizations and the metro government have come together to raise money for the Summer Works Program.
This year, the program was able to put 2,000 people, ages 16 to 21, to work.
The positions are with companies and organizations like the Kentuckiana Boys and Girls Club.
That organization's president and CEO said these summer jobs are critical.
The community was able to raise $471,000 for the Summer Works Program this year.
