(WHAS11) -- Dangerously dry conditions are putting a damper on July 4 fireworks celebrations across Indiana this week.
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard has banned private fireworks shows in his city. Ballard says the fire threat created by dry conditions just isn't worth the risk.
Indianapolis had gone 24 straight days without measurable precipitation before thunderstorms rolled through Friday and Saturday.
Ballard says the ban does not apply to professional fireworks displays licensed by the state.
Holiday World has also canceled their July 4 fireworks display this year. The park owners say they're sorry to disappoint visitors; however the dry conditions make the fireworks a major safety risk.
Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett has postponed the western Indiana city's July 4 fireworks show. Bennett says the display has been might be postponed until Labor Day weekend, depending on weather conditions.
