(WHAS11) You’ve got a ton of choices when it comes to getting down to the new arena for an event. Come early and park close, take a shuttle, take a cab; the list goes on, but the bottom line is, when you get a lot of people in one area there’s going to be traffic problems.
Friday night though we caught up with a couple who will park for free and avoid pre and post game traffic. How you might ask? You’ve got to be willing to walk!
“Just on a side street, no parking meter; you just have to walk,” said Steve Ellis
It’s a simple concept some would see as an inconvenience, but for Steve and Joan Ellis parking far from a venue and walking is somewhat of a lifestyle. “Pay to park? No. I never pay to park. I don’t believe in paying to park.” So you’re willing to walk the extra mile to get to the arena, we asked? “Yes of course.” And this is a philosophy you’ve always gone by? “I walk to work,” said Ellis.
The Ellis’ aren’t season ticket holders and this is their first trip to the KFC Yum Center and from what they’ve heard, this wouldn’t be the time to change their parking philosophy. “We have a son that works at Impellizeri’s down here and he’s got parking problems every day, because he doesn’t want to park. He’s got no secrets, and he’s not taking our advice,” added Ellis.
Their mile journey to the arena almost complete, we found out the Ellis’ weren’t alone in their trek to the game. How far away did you guys park? “We walked about six blocks.” You don’t mind walking do you? “Nope!” answered the fan.
And as they reached their destination, the Ellis’ not only avoided the headaches that can be involved with traffic and parking, they also got their exercise. “This is it. Take care. Go Cards.” Was it worth it? “Indeed,” said Steve Ellis.
