Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The city has added 60 new miles of bike lanes in the community, and to celebrate, the Louisville Bike Club kicked off the Fourth of July with a 5 mile Family Freedom Fun Ride.

The ride started in Central Park in old Louisville.

The mayor was on hand and so was Councilman David James.

Mayor Fischer said cycling and bike lanes are an important part of the city's growth.

Fischer said many young professionals are looking for other ways - like biking - to get to work, and said bike lanes are important for keeping those 20-somethings in Louisville.
