LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- City leaders are hoping a new event will help provide a creative outlet for Louisville teenagers and help deter gang activity.
On Tuesday, Expressions of You announced a new open mic series. This is in response to teen violence that happened in March at Waterfront Park.
The group says it hopes to use the arts as a way for kids to express themselves in a positive way.
"We know that by bringing people into the arts using music, poetry, song and dancing it can get them to elevate to new heights," James Linton, the owner of Expression of You, said.
The first open mic night is Thursday from seven to nine at Wick's Pizza on Baxter Avenue. Anyone can come to this family-friendly event.
