(WHAS11/Press Release) --Eastern High School is celebrating its second Excel Award winner for this academic school year with social studies teacher Laura Bowling.
Laura Bowling knows that social studies education extends far beyond the classroom walls. She “works diligently to make her students aware and active participants in the political scene both locally and nationally,” Eastern High Assistant Principal Matthew Rickert said. “She invites prominent speakers to Eastern and leads field trips to Washington, D.C., to further her students’ classroom learning.”
The assistant principal of Eastern High School says Bowling teaches her students through real world applications.
In 1999, she joined the staff at Eastern, where she is known for her “creative lessons with real world application,” Eastern Assistant Principal Pamela Ries, said. For example, Bowling incorporates a mock presidential election, a mock congress, campaign volunteerism, a trench warfare simulation, and a slave ship simulation into her lessons.
