(WHAS11) - This Excel Award winning teacher in Hardin County is the product of a military family, who has excelled in her second year as a teacher at Rineyville Elementary School.
Karen Arant, started her educational journey in Florida, but it crossed paths with the Excel Award and WHAS11’s Gary Roedemeier.
Karen Arant is a classroom powerhouse. Her voice rings out, and 31 students respond to her commanding presence. She's from a military family, so Karen's time at the school may be limited, but already she has made a deep impression in Hardin County.
“They respect me by calling me Mrs. Arant and quite often, I respect them by calling them their last names. They're big kids in fourth grade, sometimes, they deserve to be called last names,” says Arant.
There is a hint of military precision in the classroom, from a teacher, who grew up in a military family and whose husband, Captain John Arant, serves at Fort Knox. It is a way of life in Hardin County.
Karen Arant came to Rineyville three weeks into the 2008-2009 school year.
Her contribution was so immediate, that she has been named Hardin County's best teacher in just her second year.
There was a $1,000 check from E.ON U.S. to provide funding for future classroom projects. Congratulations to Karen Arant.
Our Excel presentations move to Greater Clark County and Jefferson County in April and then we'll announce the winners in Shelby and Oldham Counties after Derby.
