(WHAS11) There’s Black Friday, Cyber Monday and “Super Saturday,” but some people say December 26 is the best shopping day of the year.
Whether you have extra cash to spend or need to return a gift, the day after Christmas is still all about a bargain. The holiday may be officially over, but retailers are still getting gifts; the gift of shoppers spending.
It’s a gift retailers say was hard to come by last year, when the recession first hit. But this year, buyers are still begging for a bargain.
Wayne Hart, JC Penny store manager said, “This year, the customer is looking for promotions, coupons, deals. We offered those every week and the customer responded.” He said their sales are already up this year from last. And they are hoping those numbers just keep going up.
But this weekend, the shopping is no longer about gifting, it’s about spending that extra something on yourself.
Barry Washington, a shopper said, “I’m interested in getting some shirts. They have % off,e specially in the Big and Tall department!”
Carol Ormay, another shopper said, “There are some good ones out there. They are 75% off, so that’s a good deal.”
No matter what you’re trying to find, shoppers said if you can wait for the after-Christmas deals, it could pay off big time.
Shopper Shirley Rodgers said, “I think there’s more to choose from. I think the economy has driven the prices down and I think people look for the great prices.”
Hart said, “It’s been a challenging time for a lot of the consumers, without question. But with a lot of promotion, we’ve received the reaction we hoped for with our customers.”
The Mall St. Matthews, Oxmoor Center and Jefferson Mall are open until 9:00 p.m. Saturday. They re-open Sunday from noon until 6:00 p.m. and return to their normal opening hours of 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
