(WHAS11)- A special honor was given Tuesday for an Adair County firefighter who died while battling a house fire.

"It's such an honor today to officially dedicate this bus the 2012 Charles Sparks Tribute Bus," said Alan Reed, superintendent for Adair County schools.

The Sparks family attended the ceremony as the bus for children with special needs was dedicated.

The bus was purchased with a grant from the WHAS Crusade for Children, a favorite charity of firefighter Charles Sparks.

"Charles loved firefighting and he loved working for the Crusade for Children.  Today we would be so proud.  He worked hard for the Crusade," said Tammy Sparks, Charlie Sparks' wife.

Fellow firefighters say you could count on Charlie no matter what the situation.

They like the fact that his memory will continue to inspire the children who ride the bus named in his honor.
