LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS) – The Kentucky teen who inspired a movement across social media has died.
13-year-old Lane Goodwin had been fighting alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer for more than three years. Lane died Wednesday evening surrounded by his family.
Goodwin’s inspirational attitude became a huge sensation with social media that a special page titled ‘Thumbs up for Lane Goodwin’ garnered thousands of hits, even from University of Kentucky coach John Calipari and country singer Garth Brooks.
A candlelight vigil will be held Friday to honor Goodwin's life. Facebook friends plan to gather at Waterfront Park at 8 p.m. - the vigil will begin at 9 p.m. Organizers are asking people to wear yellow.
