LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A big announcement Monday from the founder of Blessings In A Backpack. The program will now serve more than 35,000 JCPS students.
Thanks to national and local partnerships more children than ever will go home every Friday with enough food to feed themselves over the weekend.
Officials say the expansion is a notice to the American Education System that students deserve enough food to get a good education.
Since the program's inception 6 years ago, officials say they have seen improvements in student's test scores, behavior and an increase in attendance.
