More than 400 Kentuckiana children now have a new friend thanks to Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

Sunday, the organization celebrated at Buca di Beppo for finishing a campaign that helped those children get off a back log.

Some children may have to wait 2 years for a match but Big Brothers, Big Sisters launched a media and marketing campaign to draw support.

31-year-old Donnie Adkins was the 400th volunteer to sign up.

“ I just always felt like when I grow up, if I'm in a position to help somebody else out, that's what I need to do. It's the Christian way to do it. That's what I'm doing,” said Adkins.

Kristin Milosebich of Big Brothers, Big Sisters said, “They understand that there are children everywhere in Kentuckiana that can benefit from having an adult mentor, having a friend in their life, and that people are willing to step up and volunteer and be big brothers and big sisters.”

And we're thrilled at WHAS11 to be kicking off our 21st year of helping to match great kids with caring adults for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Kentuckiana.
