(WHAS11) -- The funeral for the sheriff's deputy who was killed while helping a stranded motorist is planned for this weekend. Marion County Deputy Anthony Rakes died Wednesday at a Lebanon hospital.
Visitation for Deputy Rakes is Saturday November 16 from 5-8 p.m. at Bosley Funeral Home, on South Proctor Knott Avenue in Lebanon. Visitation continues Saturday morning from 11 a.m.-1p.m. Marion County High School, followed by the funeral.
Rakes had just gotten off work and was headed home when he stopped to help a driver on US-68 police say Dewayne Shipp then shot Rakes.
Police later found Shipp in Campbellsville with a gunshot wound to his leg. Dozens of police escorted Rakes' body to the funeral home.
Deputy Rakes was a six-year veteran of the Marion County Sheriff's Department. Rakes served with the Lebanon Police Department for two years.
