KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WHAS11) -- A heartwarming story of a friendship between a deer and dog in Missouri has come to a bittersweet end.
The deer, known as Ella, and the pup found each other at a cemetery in Kansas City a few weeks ago, but animal control officials said the dog would not make it through the winter living outside with Ella so they took her to a shelter.
Cemetery officials said Ella stood by the animal control van, as workers took the dog away. They said it was heartbreaking, but it was the best thing for the dog.
