(WHAS 11)--During Andy and Kelsey’s trip to New York, they had a chance to go to Ground Zero.
They also visited the site of the new World Trade Center buildings and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
It’s hard to describe the sheer size of the new Freedom Tower which is the tallest building in the western hemisphere. It is 104 stories.
In the footprints of where the Twin Towers once stood, are two reflecting pools, each cascading waterfalls in the opposite direction of the towers.
The names of the nearly 3000 people killed in the 9/11 attacks are inscribed in bronze plaques surrounding the pools.
The adjacent museum is built around some of the remaining pieces of steel in the original towers. It opened to the public last month.
There has been controversy surrounding the museum since it opened.
Every person Andy and Kelsey spoke with said the museum was tastefully done. The museums has about 5000 visitors every day.
