NEW YORK (AP) -- Painter and sketch artist LeRoy Neiman has died in New York at age 91.
He was best known for evoking the kinetic energy of the world's biggest sporting and leisure events with bright quick strokes. He was a contributing artist at Playboy magazine for many years and was the official painter of five Olympiads.
His longtime publicist Gail Parenteau says he died Wednesday. She hasn't disclosed the cause of his death.
Neiman was also known for setting up his easel in the paddock of Churchill Downs for many years. His paintings of the track became the covers of Oaks and Derby tickets.
