Gary Roedemeier

Gary Roedemeier has been WHAS11’s evening news anchor for the
past 20 years. During his career in television news, Gary has won five
regional Emmys and over a dozen Metro Journalism Awards. And this year,
for the seventh time, he was voted Best Male News Anchor by the readers
of Louisville Magazine.
Gary is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism,
where he was honored for outstanding word and picture reporting. He
started his broadcast career at WPSD-TV in Paducah as a reporter and
news anchor in 1968.
In Louisville, Gary is also a spokesperson for the Big Brother and Big
Sister mentoring program. He is the WHAS11 representative who presents
the ExCEL Awards to outstanding public school teachers. And Gary is
a board member for Music Theater Louisville.
Gary is also very active in local sports and plays in the Metro Seniors
Softball League. He is well known at local road races and runs the Triple
Crown Road Races in the spring. And in the mid '90s he was a multiple
gold medal winner in track and field at the Bluegrass State Games.
Gary is a veteran of the U.S. Navy from the Vietnam Era. His ship made
three deployments to Vietnam from 1964 to 1966.
He has two sons, Chad, news editor for the Tennessee Bureau of the Associated
Press in Nashville, and Bret, associate art director for Budget Travel
magazine in New York City.
Gary lives in Prospect with his wife Lisa and stepson Jordan.
