NEW YORK, April 22, 2008 – Every year since 1875, crowds have gathered in Louisville, Kentucky to watch “the most exciting two minutes in sports,” -the Kentucky Derby. But the races at Churchill Downs leading up to Derby Day and the main event are only part of the fun - it’s as much about the concerts, fashions and cocktails.
This racing season, the makers of Crown Royal blended Canadian whisky and the recently introduced Crown Royal Cask No. 16 are not giving out fashion tips or handicapping races, but they ARE introducing two new horseracing-inspired cocktails, and if you are planning on celebrating Derby Week, it’s a safe bet that you will love these delectable new drinks: the Crown Royal Rose and the Cask No. 16 Perfecta.
Since 1995, Crown Royal has been a proud supporter of The Crown Royal American Turf Race and the 1998 creation of Churchill Downs’ Festival in the Field, which the brand will proudly host once again this year. Look for the Crown Royal Rose and the Cask No. 16 Perfecta at events throughout the weekend.
Immediately prior to the historic Kentucky Oaks, Crown Royal will celebrate the 17th running of the $150,000-added Crown Royal American Turf Race on Friday, May 2. The Grade 111, 1 1/16-mile grass race for three-year-old thoroughbreds is one of the marquee races of the Kentucky Oaks Day racing program.
The Crown Royal Festival in the Field has entertained more than 1.3 million people over the past 10 years. The tradition continues with the 11th Annual Crown Royal Festival in the Field, a two-day celebration of music, racing and Kentucky culture on the turf at Churchill Downs, May 1 and 2, 2008.

Crown Royal Rose - Inspired by the garland of roses presented in victory circle to the winner of the Kentucky Derby
Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Crown Royal
.75 oz. Fresh lemon juice (four lemon wedges)
.50 oz. Grenadine
1 Rose petal for garnish
Preparation:
Fill a cocktail shaker two-thirds full of ice and add all ingredients (except rose petal). Shake for approximately 15 seconds. Strain into a martini glass. Add rose petal garnish.
Crown Royal Cask No. 16 Perfecta – A winning arrangement of ingredients that always finishes at the top
Ingredients:
1.0 oz. Crown Royal Cask No. 16
.25 oz. Sweet Vermouth
.25 oz. Dry Vermouth
.25 oz. Maraschino Liqueur
1 dash Angostura Bitters
1 Lemon Twist for garnish
Preparation:
Fill a cocktail shaker two-thirds full of ice and add all ingredients (except lemon twist). Shake for approximately 15 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass. Add lemon twist garnish. Serve up.
