LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Authorities say two people have been identified and remain hospitalized after a train and car collided in Sellersburg, Indiana Friday.
Police say the accident happened before 4 p.m. in the 1200 block of Bringham Drive near County Road 31.
The driver 26-year-old Mohammed Alanani and 18-year-old Ammal Shaibi both remain in critical and serious condition at University Hospital.
Another passenger, 29-year-old Amir Salman was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witnesses, the train honked its horn and had its warning lights on but was unable to stop before colliding with Alanani’s vehicle.
Witnesses also say the vehicle was sitting on the tracks and made no effort to move off the tracks.
Officers reported there are no lights or arms to a signal if a train is coming.
Authorities will conduct toxicology test and say those results will not be back for a few weeks.
