LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A man is recovering after being shot at a bar in southwest Jefferson County Friday night.

Police say the incident happened around 11 p.m. at Gilbert’s Bar and Grill just off Terry Road and the Greenbelt Highway.

According to witness Joseph Bowman, a fight broke out at the facility and quickly escalating, leading up to the shooting.

Bowman says the scene was frantic and he believes bars need tougher security to keep weapons out.

The bar’s manager declined an interview but says they do have signs warning patrons that guns are not allowed.

According to Louisville Metro Police, the man who was shot was taken to University Hospital where he is expected to be okay.
