LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Mayor Greg Fischer wants the Metropolitan Sewer District to change their plans for a storage basin in Smoketown.

Fischer says the basin, to be located at Logan and Breckenridge Streets, should be built underground to create a park-like setting.

The current project calls for a brick building with pumps to cover the basin which will help prevent sewer overflows from Beargrass Creek.

Fischer sent out a message via Twitter that the MSD board will consider the proposal when it meets next week.

The Smoketown basin is expected to be complete in late 2017.
