LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A local veteran has been laid to rest, 75 years after his death.
Petty Officer First Class Samuel Crowder went missing in action during Pearl Harbor, one of the most horrific says in American history.
Two years ago, hundreds of bodies were exhumed from a mass grave for those killed during the attack.
DNA testing helped reunite the fallen heroes with their families.
Crowder’s remains were flown home on Thursday so he could peacefully be buried in Louisville.
“It’s been a long time coming – we’ve been wishing for this for years,” Crowder’s nephew Fred said.
Crowder was buried at Cave Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
