BEREA, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kentucky's Berea College benefits from the bill U.S. lawmakers passed to keep the government open.

The small school in which does not charge tuition will once again be exempt from a tax on its endowment.

Berea relies mostly on its $1 billion endowment to keep the free tuition, but the last year's Republican tax plan included a tax on the school's endowment that would have cost it $1 million a year.

Senator McConnell said he insisted the school's tax exemption be part of the budget bill.
