LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – After a $50 million renovation and having been reopened for nearly 7 months, The Speed Art Museum is giving back to the university it calls home.

For the next year, students, faculty and staff will receive free admission to the museum.

Officials say nearly 1,000 people have taken advantage of the offer.

“One of the exciting things about the museum is that they have the different exhibitions that come through. Our faculty can assign for students to be able to come here and tour the exhibits and view that and then talk about it in their classes,” Michael Mardis, University of Louisville Dean of Students, said.

The public can also experience the Speed Art Museum for free thanks to a donation from Brown-Forman.

The company made a donation allowing the museum to offer Owsley Sundays where families can visit the museum for free every Sunday for the next 5 years.
