LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- An off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy has been rushed to University Hospital in downtown Louisville.

Sheriff spokesman Carl Yates tells WHAS11 the longtime deputy was working his off-duty job at ValuMarket in Iroquois Manor in South Louisville when he somehow shot himself in the arm.

Yates says paramedics quickly stopped the bleeding and streets were shut down to rush the deputy to treatment.

The store manager at ValuMarket told WHAS no one else was hurt. He says he didn’t know what had happened until he looked outside and saw all of the EMS activity.

Yates believes the deputy has been with the Sheriff’s Department 15 years, possibly longer.
