Restaurant owner victim of LG&E scam

Lindsay Deetch, the owner of Sandi's Kitchen off Cane Run Road, says she received a call from someone who claimed to be with LG&E who said she needed to pay a missed bill or her restaurant's electricity would be disconnected.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A local restaurant owner says she’s out $1,500 after being scammed Monday and she’s hoping her story will prevent others from losing money.

Lindsay Deetch, the owner of Sandi’s Kitchen off Cane Run Road, says she received a call from someone who claimed to be with LG&E who said she needed to pay a missed bill or her restaurant’s electricity would be disconnected.

She said she had been very busy and thought it could have been possible she missed a payment.

Deetch says she followed the caller’s instructions, buying several prepaid cards for the caller before she realized she had already paid her bill and she was being scammed.

"It can happen to anyone and it's a horrible feeling to know that I come up here and bust my butt for my family and people like that - I'm sure there are several of us that they did this to today," she said.

Deetch says has filed a police report.

She says the officer told her that her case was the second one reported that afternoon.

LG&E will not ask you to pay with prepaid cards.

Anyone who receives a phone call asking for money should double check with the organization to ensure it is not a scam.
