LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Rodrick Grinstead was killed while walking across Dixie Highway, police say the driver didn't stop.

"He was understanding, he was a loving guy, he was kind," Kenneth Charlton said. It’s how he remembers his friend Rodrick Grinstead.

The 34-year-old was crossing Dixie Highway on Oct. 26 around 8 p.m. when he was hit by a car. Grinstead passed away at University Hospital.

Shively police released surveillance footage from nearby businesses hoping to generate new leads.

Police say the driver was in an older model Toyota Corolla or Nissan Sentra that is burgundy with a grey or silver driver side door.

Sgt. Josh Myers with Shively Police Dept tells us, "It should have moderate to extensive front-end damage and according to witnesses it was driven by a female, the only occupant of the car."

Officers say the driver, after hitting Grinstead, continued to the Watterson.

Police say Grinstead was walking just a few feet south from the crosswalk at Dixie and Garrs Lane. It’s another deadly accident involving a pedestrian in an area where it’s happening far too often, according to police.

Sgt. Myers adds, "It's just a bad formula, you have a lot of foot traffic on a very busy road and the road itself is wide."

Charlton adds, "The best thing to do is to give yourself up, because you're going to pay no matter what, through Jesus Christ."

Shively Police and Kenneth Charlton say if you know something, say something.
