LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness received a special honor Tuesday.

The department has received national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board which puts it among the top 5-percent of health departments in the nation.

To become accredited, departments have to undergo a rigorous process to assure it meets or exceeds quality standards.

The board says this honor is assurance to Louisville residents that their health department is able to protect and promote the health of their community.
